Bulldogs & Bears is my moniker for book and ephemera efforts including a series of blank journals. I have some specific feature goals in mind. First, they must open completely flat. This binding is hand bound but not sewn. I glue the folios together so they all lie flat and open easily.
I designed a flexible construction that is easy to slip into pockets, purses and backpacks. You can roll these up or even bend them back on themselves without bursting the spines. That makes them handy for use while in a crowded bus or at a restaurant table.
The covers are laminated sheets of mulberry paper. (Laminated is a fancy word for “glued together.”) They retain flexibility and strength while managing to look pretty nice too. I glue the deckled paper edges next to the bookcloth covered spine.
